Rain Rain Go Away Already!!

Pouring rain again and 41 Deg F yet supposed to be in the 70's the end of the week. We are fortunate -have water sitting in the back of the yard but none in the basement (yet). It's pouring down the street and sidewalks. Checked the basement and some water is tricking down the stairs through the bilge doors but not inside. No doubt there will be roads flooded if they aren't already as the rivers will be overflowing. The poor people who have been in areas that have been flooded will be getting hit yet again. Water can do so much damage.

Kettlebells

Went to a free workshop tonight at our local library on kettlebells. My son has one and had said I'd probably enjoy using one for a workout because I've always liked doing swinging things w/my arms (long story there I won't bother with here). Seven people showed up. Instructors were a husband/wife team who have a local place of instruction in kettlebells and other workouts - he's an RKC instructor for kettlebells meaning he's certified -v- just some regular person who has decided to teach. What a great workout for the legs and core. I started out w/8K/18 lbs though they had a lighter one. Very important to use the kettlebell properly or you could hurt your back in fact by using it properly you don't feel anything in your back at all just the legs. They have classes other than the bells which are also great not based on 'traditional' equipment like treadmills etc. Think I may be hooked and sign up for some classes and order myself a kettlebell.

March Weather

Monday and Wednesday I watched the grandkiddies and the weather was great - right around 60 degrees. We spent alot of the afternoons outside playing in the backyard. Andre's grandfather, who got him a bike for his birthday, is going with Stef to pick it up from the local bike shop today (the shop's putting it together). Unfortunately today it has started raining already, temperature is mid 40's (10 a.m.) and we will have heavy rains tomorrow through at least part of Sunday! I had got him a "growing" basketball hoop. Hopefully he'll be able to use both before the end of the month.
Sophia will be 10 months in a couple of days and is trying to walk oh oh!
Spring is coming!

No watching the Oscars if you have Cablevision!

Cablevision and ABC/Disney have jointly come to the decision that those of us subscribing to Cablevision should not be allowed to watch the Oscars. I may or may not have watched them anyway. But why should ABC have the exclusive rights to broadcasting the Oscars - similarly why did NBC have sole rights to the Olympics? Now ABC has cut off Cablevision in a dispute about the usual - money. ABC want more. Cablevision, who gave us a rate hike the end of the year of course say no. They had a dispute w/FoodTV. This whole thing is ridiculous. Of course Verizon/Fios is a popular option. Except they lock you into a two-year contract and have been notorious for years for billing errors and poor customer service when one tries to rectify their error. So no Oscars tonight? Have Netflix dvds to watch.

There's a reason for leash laws!!

Took my Annie for another walk around 6 pm yesterday as it was a nice day finally. Suddenly notice a small Pomeranian rushing across the street towards us - followed by a snarling bulldog. So Annie who has had so many health issues lately gets attacked by the bulldog who gets pulled off finally by someone, Annie gets up with difficulty and is limping. The woman from the house drives us home as I have to carry Annie. Rush her to the vet and she's been bitten on her inside upper leg. The picture shows her long bandage -to prevent swelling. We go back to vet today and tomorrow as infection is a major concern.
The owners of the Pomeranian always let it outside off leash. Usually it comes back when called. Not this time. They are watching the bulldog for their daughter. Woman claims she was outside (which I had noticed) hubby opens the door to tell her something and out go both dogs. Accidentally? I think not! I've seen him do that w/the Pom many times - it's an annoying yappy little thing. The woman came to the house while I was at the vet of course Stef had just gotten home w/the children not knowing what's going on she hadn't checked voice mails on cell or home phone yet. She left her name and number and I called when I got home to advise how much it cost so far and I was reporting it to the police. She was very concerned which I appreciate. However I did let her know what I thought of her hubby's irresponsible actions. Why would you let a dog you aren't familiar with run out unattended you hold it back for god's sake. Not to mention they both could have been hit by a car, of course if that had happened Annie would be ok...yes that's mean of me. The lesson I hope they all learn: next time, and there will be a next time if the dog isn't watched carefully, it could be even more serious if it goes after a small dog or child.

Child Air Comptroller at JFK

What on earth was the father thinking when he allowed his child to play comptroller in the tower at JFK Airport? It's common knowledge the conversations are taped did he really think it wouldn't come out? NOT a good decision!
