Snow Snow Snow

One can take some beautiful pictures in a snowstorm. But NOT when it's coming down in a combination of snow and rain creating piles of slush. Too nasty for our snowblower - son-in-law and I cleared off the cars, sidewalks and driveway so we don't have 2 inches of ice under the snow tomorrow a.m. We may end up with 13" of snow. Hope we don't lose power. I'm making sure my deck and stairs are as clear as can be for my Annie to get out to the backyard. She's doing well so far. Will know more after her appt next Thursday.

Olympics

Enjoying watching the Olympics -taping most of the events being shown in the evening to watch the next day but do watch the events while they are shown in the afternoon. Not terribly impressed with NBCs coverage. Love seeing the shots of Vancouver/home.

The Opening of the Olympics

Shortly the Opening of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver will be broadcast. Sadly a 21-year old luger, Nodar Kumaritashvili from Georgia lost control of his sled during training, went over the track wall and struck an unpadded steel pole near the finish line at Whistler Sliding Center. Paramedics and doctors were unable to revive the 21-year-old luger, who died at a hospital, the International Olympic Committee said. A very sad day for all the athletes and our hearts go out to his family.

Feb 10, 2010 snowstorm

We need to ship some of our snow to Cypress Mtn for the Olympics though maybe they are doing ok now. This morning Channel 4 had a broadcast from Grouse Mtn, also a local mountain. Had dinner up there the last time I was home what a beautiful view of Vancouver watching the sunset!

Annie Status; Vancouver getting ready for Olympics

My Annie's coming home 6:30 tonight will learn how to administer fluids to her. Not sure of prognosis re inoperable masses behind her kidneys will find that out tonight but saw her yesterday she looks good and doing better.
When people found out I was from Canada they would, particularly in the winter, inevitably comment that I must be used to the cold weather. It is Feb 9th and the temperature in Vancouver is around 50 deg F or 7 or 8 C. So no, I've never been particularly used to cold or hot temperatures. Lived here years and years and still not used to the extremes. They are trucking in snow to Cypress Mountain which overlooks Vancouver. I'm picturing huge G.E. deep freezers trucking down the highway LOL. Whistler of course is fine it's further away and much higher. Speaking of snow we are apparently going to get hit with the next storm my son says it is already snowing in Ann Arbor MI.

Had to take Annie to emergency this morning

My Annie ran outside this morning looked quite stressed so I put on a jacket and followed to see if she was ok. She threw up, fell over feet thrashing and howled. Ran out to her and called Stef to come out. By then Annie was calm, able to get up but wobbly. Stef carried her up here. She was then able to walk just fine. Took her to emergency right away. Falling likely a result of her heart murmur issue caused by violently throwing up. But she's lost 5 lbs since Nov that's not good. Pale gums mean some bleeding possibly in the heart area. I'll get a call later today with ultrasound results. Updated ekg etc. will be done tomorrow. Basically a lot of tests to determine what is going on. Her age, 13, a cause for concern obviously. She's my constant companion these days. She must be ok!!

Feb 6, 2010 snow storm

We live in northern New Jersey and Hawthorne is in in the eastern portion of Passaic. Actually we are only a couple of blocks away from Bergen County which means we have the same weather. Today, at least for now, that means we do not even have snow flurries while the southern NJ, e.g. Atlantic City, is getting hit pretty hard. Looks like central NJ, Elizabeth, Newark, are starting to get a dusting. So appears we have nothing to worry about. Next storm coming is apparently Tues into Wed. Winds are starting to pick up though. A very gray day. Good to stay inside and putter around.

Year of the Tiger Golf Balls

A fellow British Columbian has come up with a set of golf balls each with a photo of one of Tiger Woods' mistresses. There are 12, no one's quite sure what he's planning for the other 7 (possibly waiting for more mistresses to appear?). Mr. Caldwell, a BC-based writer states "I woke up and I was thinking, 'It's coming up on the year of the tiger,' I thought there's millions of golfers out there stunned by what's happening with Tiger and here's a product that will get them all to laugh." Now it seems Gloria Allred is representing one of the "alleged"' ahem, mistresses, with the view that this is violence against women - the bashing of the poor girl's photo of her face with a nine-iron or whatever. Except that this is in Canada. I'll keep you posted on this international incident!
